Description
Sony’s Alpha 1 II is the company’s top full-frame body, introduced in November 2024 as the follow-up to the original Alpha 1. It keeps the 50.1 MP stacked sensor and blackout-free 30 fps bursts, then adds a dedicated AI processing unit for subject recognition, stronger in-body stabilisation, a deeper grip and a four-axis multi-angle rear screen that the first model lacked.

Who it’s for
This body is aimed at working professionals: sports and wildlife shooters who need fast bursts, wedding and event photographers who want resolution for cropping, and studios that also deliver 8K video. Enthusiasts who do not need 30 fps at 50 MP will find the a7 V or a7R VI a more sensible spend.
What to check before you buy
- Confirm the listing is body only, and check whether any bundle extras (cards, batteries) are genuine Sony or third-party.
- Grey-import bodies are often sold without a US or Canadian manufacturer warranty, so ask the seller which warranty region applies.
- Look for a sealed box with matching serial numbers on the body and carton.
- Pro bodies attract scam listings, so read our guide on spotting fake eBay listings and buy from an authorised dealer or established store with returns.
