Description
Launched in May 2026, the a7R VI is the first Sony R-series body in years to get a brand-new sensor. The 66.8 MP chip is now fully stacked, which lets the camera shoot 30 fps of full-resolution 14-bit RAW and sharply cuts rolling shutter compared with the a7R V. Sony also moved to the BIONZ XR2 processor, a brighter 9.44M-dot viewfinder and a new higher-capacity battery.

Who it’s for
Pick the a7R VI if you print large, crop heavily or shoot landscapes, architecture, products and portraits, but also want enough speed for birds and action. Video shooters get 8K and 4K 120p, though the a7 V is the better value for hybrid work at lower resolution.
What to check before you buy
- The camera uses the new NP-SA100 battery, so spares from older Alpha bodies will not fit; check which batteries are included.
- Confirm body only versus bundles, and that the listing says a7R VI rather than a7R V.
- Grey-import bodies are often sold without a US or Canadian manufacturer warranty, so ask the seller which warranty region applies.
- Before paying for a high-value body, run through our safe buying checklist.
