Rather than competing on range or zoom, the ProMax is designed to fly itself: you pick a mode, press a button and it takes off from your palm, tracks you and lands back in your hand. Compared with the original X1, it brings a much larger 1/1.3-inch sensor and 8K recording.

Key specs

Sensor	1/1.3-inch CMOS
Video	Up to 8K/30fps
Dynamic range	Up to 14 stops
Weight	192.5 g
Flight time	Up to 16 minutes per battery

Who it’s for

It is ideal for outdoor athletes, travellers and families who want aerial footage without learning to pilot. People who need long flights, manual control or long range should consider a traditional drone with a controller.

What to check before you buy

Model check: the X1 Pro and X1 ProMax look almost identical; only the ProMax records 8K, so confirm the exact name on the box.
Bundle: kits vary between the standard set and combos with extra batteries, the Power Case or the Beacon remote.
Registration: it weighs under 250 g, but in the US registration is still required for commercial flying under Part 107.
Warranty: ask whether the seller is an authorised HoverAir reseller and whether the warranty covers the US or Canada.
