Description
Launched in November 2024, the 16-inch MacBook Pro with M4 Max was the first Apple laptop with Thunderbolt 5 and the first with a nano-texture display option. Although the M5 Max model has since replaced it in Apple’s lineup, sealed units remain easy to find from retailers and resellers, which makes it a sensible alternative for buyers chasing performance per dollar.

Who it’s for
Pick this model if your work involves 8K or multi-stream video, large photo libraries, music production with heavy plug-in loads or GPU rendering, and you would rather put the savings toward more memory or storage. It runs current macOS releases and Apple Intelligence features without issue.
What to check before you buy
- Older stock can sit in warehouses, so ask the seller when the unit was manufactured and confirm the warranty has not started.
- Check whether it is the 14-core/32-core or 16-core/40-core M4 Max; the box sticker lists it.
- Confirm the seller is an authorised retailer or an established store with clear return terms.
- Do not confuse it with the M4 Pro 16-inch, which uses the same chassis.
- Timing matters for previous-generation models; see the best time to buy electronics on eBay.
