Description
Launched in May 2025 as the successor to the Forerunner 965, the Forerunner 970 brings several Fenix-style features into a lighter running watch. Garmin added sapphire crystal protection, an LED flashlight, the ECG app and a brighter screen, plus new metrics such as Running Tolerance, which estimates how much weekly mileage your body can handle.

Who it’s for
Choose the 970 if you train for road races, triathlons or trail events and want detailed load and recovery guidance. Running Economy and Step Speed Loss need the HRM 600 chest strap, so serious runners may want a bundle. Casual joggers can save with a lower Forerunner.
What to check before you buy
- The 970, 965 and 570 look similar in photos; check the model number and that the listing mentions the flashlight.
- Some sellers bundle the HRM 600 strap. Confirm exactly what is in the box.
- ECG availability varies by country, so confirm it is a US or Canadian unit if that feature matters to you.
- Watch prices often drop around big sales events; our article on the best time to buy electronics on eBay covers the timing.
